Persistand and Chronic Pain Management Tiverton

Persistent (Chronic) Pain Management and support in Tiverton

Living with pain that won't go away can affect your sleep, your mood, your work and the things you love doing. Persistent pain is my specialty. I offer calm, unhurried treatment that focuses on you as a whole person, not just the place that hurts.I know how isolating long-term pain can be, because I've lived with it myself. Read my story on my About page.

What is persistent pain?

The NHS now uses the term persistent pain for what used to be called chronic pain. It means pain that has lasted more than three months, often after the original injury should have healed. Sometimes there was never a clear injury at all.

Persistent pain is real. Over time the nervous system can become more sensitive and keep sending pain signals even when the tissues aren't being damaged. That's why rest alone often doesn't fix it, and why a gentle, gradual approach usually works better than "pushing through."

How I can help

  • Gentle, adaptable massage to ease muscle tension and help your body feel safer to move

  • Pressure that suits you. Treatment doesn't need to hurt to help.

  • Simple, realistic advice on movement, pacing and managing flare-ups

  • Time to talk, so you feel listened to and understood

  • Working alongside your GP, physiotherapist or pain clinic, never instead of them

Long-term back pain and sciatica

Ongoing lower back stiffness and sciatic discomfort can make everyday life hard work. Using myofascial release and gentle soft tissue mobilisation, I focus on easing deep-seated tension, helping your spine move more freely and calming an over-sensitive nervous system

Living with long-term muscle and joint pain

Whether it's ongoing joint or muscle pain, fibromyalgia, postural strain from long hours at a desk, or pain that's never been fully explained, I understand how frustrating it can be. Pain can affect your confidence, your relationships and the things you used to enjoy without a second thought.

Massage won't replace medical care, but it may help you manage symptoms by easing muscle tension, supporting better sleep and helping you move more comfortably. Together we can build a plan focused on realistic, sustainable progress.

Menopause and changing aches

Many women notice new joint pain, muscle stiffness, tension headaches or poorer sleep as hormone levels change. These symptoms are real, common and often overlooked. Massage may help ease muscle tension, support mobility and reduce stress, alongside whatever else you're doing to manage this stage of life.

Staying mobile as you get older

Stiff joints, reduced flexibility and slower recovery are common as the years go on, but they don't have to mean giving up what you enjoy. Whether you're living with arthritis, recovering from a fall or simply want to stay comfortable day to day, massage can help ease stiffness and keep you moving at a pace that feels right for you.

What to expect at your first session

We start with a free consultation about your pain, your health history and what you'd like to get back to doing. Treatment is always guided by you. You stay in control, and we can adjust or stop at any time. You'll leave with a few practical ideas to try at home.

When to see your GP first

Please speak to your GP or call NHS 111 before booking if your pain is new and unexplained, getting rapidly worse, or comes with fever, unexplained weight loss, numbness, weakness, or changes to bladder or bowel control.

Client Review - Client after a serious car crash

I started seeing Helen after a traumatic injury, and I'm so glad I did. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and her soft tissue work has been a gentle, patient part of my recovery, gradually easing the tightness through scar tissue and the sore, protective muscles. But what really sets Helen apart is how kind and understanding she is. She takes the time to understand where you are and supports you through it, which makes all the difference when you're suffering, frustrated and desperate to heal. In the beginning, I couldn't bear for anyone, even myself, to go near my scar or ribs, and her calm, reassuring approach has helped me feel less anxious around the injury site. I always leave feeling more at ease in body and mind. I'm so grateful for Helen's continued support as I work through my recovery. Thank you for everything, Helen.
